The town of Guérigny is heir to a long tradition of metallurgy. In the 18th century, the Forges de la Chaussade, one of France's first ironworks, played a major role in the town's development. The buildings on the old Guérigny industrial site have undergone major restoration work. They now house an exhibition on the history of metallurgy in the Nivernais region, models of old hammer-drills, steam engines, production for the navy (chain anchors, etc.) and a temporary exhibition.
