8 km from Decize, the Musée de la Mine in La Machine offers two complementary sites : the Musée de la mine and the Puits des Glénons:
- Installed in the former administrative headquarters of the "Houillères", the Museum retraces the history of coal and the life of the miners (the bottom, the snack bar, the dramas, the leisure activities). It houses objects, photographs and models left behind by former miners. You will also find the directors' office, a plan room, a model of the town, collections of minerals and fossils and numerous testimonies of mining history.
- The Puits des Glénons and its mine gallery are located on the very site of its former activity. Here you can discover the harsh working conditions of the miners, women, children and animals. This unique space, animated by guides, will plunge you into the world of darkness that was theirs. One part is accessible to people with reduced mobility, for access to the gallery a film is available as an alternative.
