Since 2011, the Voluntary Resistance Fighters (CVR) of Saône-et-Loire have been working on a project to mark the former parachute drop sites of the Second World War to pay tribute to the men and women who took great risks to continue the fight against the enemy.
The parachute drops at Bresse sur Grosne took place on the nights of 12 to 13 August and 13 to 14 August 1944, when the 3rd SAS (Special Air Service) Battalion came to reinforce the local Resistance to liberate the region. The coded messages from Radio London were "The trigger is copper" and "The teal was a good comrade".
The totem pole was inaugurated on 17 August 2013.
