Since 2011, the Voluntary Resistance Fighters (CVR) of Saône-et-Loire have been working on a project to mark the former parachute drop sites of the Second World War to pay tribute to the men and women who took great risks to continue the fight against the enemy.
The Rully parachute drop took place on the night of 14 to 15 August 1943 and was intended for the local Resistance. The coded message from Radio Londres was "Yvonne and Jeanne are well, we'll be going to Normandy this evening".
The totem pole was inaugurated on 15 August 2013.
