La Clayette was the cradle of the tower crane, founded by Faustin Potain in 1930. More than 800 people worked in La Clayette during the heyday of the Potain company, manufacturing cranes that were exported all over the world
These emblematic cranes are leaving La Clayette with the closure of the historic factory in 2014. In memory of the major industrial epic that La Clayette has known, a memorial has been erected in front of the Tourist Office.
