Château de Mâlain
When you arrive in Mâlain, you can clearly see the ruins of the castle. Perched on a rock detached from the Mâlain fault and dominating the village from its imposing ruins, the castle is a seigniory attested to as far back as the 11th century. The families who successively occupied it from its origins to the Revolution (the Sombernons, the Montagues, the Beaufremonts, the Mâlains, the Brulards and the Vichys) played important roles in Burgundy on several occasions, and even at the King's court. For over thirty years, the château has been gradually restored. This medieval fortress on the rocky outcrop overlooking the village of Mâlain has undergone a number of restorations and archaeological excavations, bringing the castle back to life. The site is managed by the Groupe Archéologique Mesmontois (GAM).
From 18 September 2023, the site will be open on Sundays only from 2pm to 6pm.
