This building dates back to 1829 and once housed a silkworm farm. A magnanerie is a silkworm farm. It is one of the few remaining vestiges of this industry in Auxois Morvan.
The history of this building began in 1824 when two brothers, Messrs Marlio, started a plantation of white mulberry trees. Necessary for feeding silkworms, the two brothers owned 38,000 plants by 1830. From 1829 onwards, silk was produced on site and then sold nationwide. Judged to be of the highest quality, the Marlio brothers' silk won several awards, notably from the Côte d'Or General Council. Despite a prosperous industry, the company came to a halt in the mid-19th century as a result of the worm epidemic and the development of artificial fibres.
The site is not open to the public, but tours of the silkworm nursery are organised by the Pays d'art et d'histoire de l'Auxois Morvan.
