Founded in 1131 by Bernard de Clairvaux, Cherlieu Abbey established itself in the 12th, 13th and 14th centuries as the richest abbey in the County of Burgundy (17 agricultural estates).
All that remains of the church, built in the last third of the 12th century and of imposing dimensions (98m by 54m), is the wall of the north transept, testimony to the splendour of this Romanesque and Gothic edifice.
It's a pleasant walk through the heart of the national forest. You can picnic on site.
