Musée Rolin
Museum closed for works for 5 years from 01/10/2022 until 31/12/2027.
The Rolin Museum is housed in the 15th century birthplace of Nicolas Rolin (Chancellor of the Dukes of Burgundy, founder of the Hospices de Beaune) and houses rich and varied collections. The archaeological collections show the Gallo-Roman past of Autun: mosaics of Greek authors, mosaic of "Bellerophon and the chimera", parade helmet, bronzes... You can also admire works from the Middle Ages: Eve (12th century sculpture), Nativity of the Master of Moulins (15th century painting), Virgin of Autun (15th century polychrome stone). The museum has also been enriched by important bequests of paintings from the 17th to the 20th century (Brugel, Le Nain, Cibot, Vernet, Charlot, Denis, Dubuffet, Miro, Ubac, Alechinski...). Also to be discovered is the 3D film "Révélation, le grand portail d'Autun" at the Espace Gislebertus. This film reveals the smallest details of the tympanum of the Last Judgement in the Cathedral of Saint-Lazare (12th century): it provides visitors with the keys to understanding the tympanum, its creation, its realization, the characters and their role. The visitor is plunged into an original journey to the heart of the cathedral of Saint-Lazare.
