Nature and heritage of Toucy

Departure and return car park in the centre of Toucy, Place des Frères Genêt: alternative parking available behind the Post Office.

(D/A) Enter the town centre via the small street to the right of the shop with the large windows. Take Rue Paul Bert, cross the pavement opposite and turn left. At the roundabout with the statue of Pierre Larousse on your left, turn right into Rue Paul Verger. In front of the Town Hall building, continue up Rue du Marché on the left.

Almost at the top (before the cross street), turn left, pass in front of the church porch and walk around the building to end up in Rue Ecce Homo. Do not go down this street, but continue along Rue de la Croix Saint-Germain, leaving the church behind you. At the crossroads just before the cemetery, turn left.

(1) Carefully cross Avenue Aristide Briand and continue straight ahead. At the junction with Rue des 6 Deniers, turn right. At the end of this street, turn left and go down towards the supermarket.

(2) Turn right and walk past the Californie buildings (recycling and recovery centre). Continue along this street lined with plane trees. At the crossroads, level with an agricultural machinery workshop, turn left towards Rumaru - la Roche.

(3) Go straight ahead until you reach a large curve with a track in front of you. Take this road and at the fork, go down to the left.

(4) Go left down a wide gravel track. Leave the entrance to the school on your left, then the entrance to the accommodation buildings on your right, to reach a side street. Turn right and, keeping to this road, pass an old mill with its millstream. Cross over the bridge spanning the river and then carefully cross the railway line.

(5) Cross with great care and turn right, remaining vigilant for approximately 200 m. Take the small road on the left towards La Perreuse. Leave the farm on the right and walk along a stretch lined with trognes (or étrognes).

(6) Take this road on the left for about two hundred metres, leaving the first side track on the left. Take the second path, which merges slightly with the meadow at the very beginning. Continue, keeping the hedge on your right, until you reach the junction of a downhill path and a track between the fence on your left and an embankment on your right.

(7) Go down to the left and back to the Fontaine des Fours (picnic possible). Back at the crossroads, turn left onto the track below the embankment. At the next fork, bear left and walk along the river on your right (little or no water in summer). Arriving in a more open area with crops, climb the track to reach a plateau. Turn right, keeping to the main path that runs alongside a ditch on your right.

(8) At the first houses (including the one on the right with a series of murals), turn left onto the end of a street that soon becomes a road (not marked on the IGN map). This leads to a road. Continue along this road until you see the Toucy town sign.

(9) Turn right and go downhill to find a passage over the railway line after the last houses on the left. Join the road below and turn right.

(10) Carefully cross the Rue du Pont Capureau at the pedestrian crossing, go up to the right and then turn left before the level crossing. Keep to the left-hand pavement and continue along the left-hand side of the properties. Follow the signs for Aire de loisirs. At the sight of a beautiful wooded pond, turn right to drive alongside the property. Cross the ditch and turn left immediately before the pond. Keep pressing left to cross the Ouanne on the footbridge. Go back up towards the buildings to find the start car park (D/A).
