Castles and waterways are the key words of this quiet and pleasant seventeen kilometre walk.
Eguilly, the starting point of the walk, is home to a 12th century castle built on an ancient Gallo-Roman site. After your visit, take the small country roads towards Chailly-sur-Armançon, where another castle awaits you, but this one cannot be visited.
Completely transformed, it is one of the most beautiful hotels in Burgundy. Then, if you feel like it, cycle to the Cercey reservoir for a walk in the middle of nature. Your tour ends in Pouilly-en-Auxois, where you can visit, for example, the Chapelle Notre-Dame Trouvée. But first you will have passed the "seuil de Bourgogne", the highest point of the Burgundy canal, which you can cross through a three-kilometre long underground tunnel.

HERITAGE STORY
This route will lead you to several historical buildings, which will help you discover some of the rich heritage of the Auxois.
Your first visit will be to the castle of Eguilly, a small village north of Pouilly-en-Auxois. This monument is a must-see, as it harmoniously blends different architectural styles, from Gallo-Roman to 18th century. This ancient fortress has six towers, and its ramparts and moat can still be seen. A 15th century chapel is also present on the site, which is now also a centre for international contemporary art.
Further along the road, you'll come across the sumptuous Chailly-sur-Armançon castle, now a luxury hotel, in the heart of Burgundy. This medieval fortress was built during the Renaissance and is now classified as a historical monument. In addition, you can admire the castle's golf course during your walk.
Finally, when you arrive in Pouilly-en-Auxois, visit the Chapelle Notre-Dame Trouvée, an ancient place of pilgrimage. Its name comes from a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary, which has disappeared and is said to have given life to dead babies during baptism ceremonies.
