Two travellers: a mother and her son. Storytellers, dreamers, musicians, insolent vagabonds, curious, vibrant... They draw, sketch, sing, act out this life, the one that Maupassant put down on paper, the cult novel of our adolescence.
They summon Jeanne, the Baron, Julien, the sea, the stars, the cows, the trees, the Corsican sun, the countryside, the blue.
They distil Maupassant's marvellous language like an elixir of joy.
No doubt they are weaving a piece of their own existence.
No doubt this mother is sharing many of her life secrets with her son, like grigris in the face of hardship.
We can only marvel at the work of Véronique Boutonnet and Victor Duez, who string together roles and funny, dramatic moods with delight.
We salute this fine work, which lets us breathe the air of Normandy with its sea spray full of dreams, hopes and light, despite the obscure opportunism of life.
We are won over by a production of such invention, precision and intelligence; the two excellent actors play all the characters in turn, it's theatre, there's no doubt about it, the emotion is there.
