New in 2022: Gardens of the Simpletons
Fontenay Abbey is reviving its past by offering a garden of simple plants this year. This new garden is composed of medicinal, aromatic, condiment and dye plants.
The garden is a living, evolving medium. It is presented in the form of temporary exhibitions lasting from 3 to 5 years. For the first exhibition, the garden meets Hildegard of Bingen, visionary abbess and naturalist of the Middle Ages.
of the Middle Ages. The design of the garden is based on her philosophy and the plant lists from her books.
The simple garden at Fontenay Abbey is an ideal extension of the visit to the large gardens. Designed by the landscape architect Olivier Damée, this garden is inspired by Cistercian art.
