DAY 1.
After a welcome and chat at our Templiers farm, we get the horses ready to head north and get into shape by trotting along the Burgundy canal. We then set off on a beautiful climb towards the plateau of Sainte Colombe and its pretty château, a design exhibition site. On the plateau, some fine gallops before the descent to Brain and the ascent, after the break, just across the road to the Flavigny national forest. Depending on the weather, we'll enjoy the shade of the forest or admire the view from the edge of the ridge.
Overnight in Flavigny sur Ozerain, a medieval village with numerous abbeys and a timeless atmosphere.
Accommodation at Maison George, fully-equipped self-contained flats (sleeps 2, 3 or 4).
Catering: caterer or restaurant.
6-hour day trip, 32 km.
DAY 2
This morning, we head towards Alesia to see the view over the valleys from the statue of Vercingetorix, cross the village and the vineyards and then return to Flavigny along a well-shaded path in the undergrowth that passes under Caesar's camps. Once on the plateau, we cross these camps to return to Flavigny to the west. Meal at the gîte followed by an introduction to the Mountain Trail or cultural and gastronomic visits (snail farm, crypt, brewery, etc.) or just relaxation and free time!
Overnight stay and catering as for D1
4-hour day hike, 24 km.
DAY 3
After a short visit to the historic anise factory, we'll ride all morning over the rolling plateau to Dampierre en Montagne through the Flavigny national forest, which is ideal for galloping. We'll pass through fields that look like seas of vegetation and magnificent paths with red earth undergrowth. After a break for lunch, we head back down into the Vitteaux valley, skirting the town to the north. We pass through the village of Posanges and its castle, as drawn by children, and continue through fields and small hamlets, returning to the farm at around
around 6pm.
