One exhibition, one day each month, thirty minutes, one story!
Every month this year, the Musée de la Loire will be offering a new event, which will invariably begin like a fairytale with "Once upon a time...".
This month, "Once upon a time... Pasiphae and the bull", in front of this fragment of a group sculpted in immaculate marble by the artist Évariste Jonchère: Tête de taureau (Bull's head).
At over 40cm high, this major piece in the museum's collections weighs a great deal, and not just in kilograms! In fact, this is an exceptional work created by the artist at the Villa Médicis after winning the Grand Prix de Rome in 1925. Sent to Paris, it was awarded a gold medal at the 1930 Salon, and was immediately purchased by the French government for the Musée de Cosne. Ten years later, it unfortunately disappeared in its entirety in a bombing raid that was catastrophic in many respects... You could almost stroke this massive bull, so calm and lascivious, but Pasiphaé is not far away... shall we introduce her to you?
The museum invites you to take a short cultural and historical lunch break, before or after your meal. Come and enjoy a little art to whet your appetite or digest!
