Commissioned in 2006, this radar is operated by Météo-France as part of a network of around twenty devices covering the whole of France.
It detects precipitation (rain, snow, hail, etc.) within a 200km radius and estimates the amount of water that has fallen within a 100km radius.
Beneath its white bubble, the rotating antenna emits an electromagnetic wave that is reflected by the precipitation.
The return signal is analysed to locate the precipitation and calculate its intensity.
This risk prevention equipment for the safety of people and property helps to forecast floods, manage water resources, monitor rainfall areas and improve weather forecasts.
The tower supporting the Blaisy-Haut weather surveillance radar is located outside the village at "sous le chemin de la Chaignois".
It can be reached from Sombernon, in the direction of Blaisy Haut.
The visit will focus on answering a few questions:
What is radar?
How can we understand this building, its geometric module assembly, its functions, the choice of materials, etc.?
How can it be integrated into the landscape?
Free admission, registration required.
Meeting point at the foot of the radar (car park along the D16).
Presentation limited to 25 people.
