Presentation of heritage documents "Les étrangetés de Buffon", Written heritage in BFC

Extracts from the Histoire naturelle générale et particulière, the sequel to the Histoire naturelle de l'homme (1778), are presented. In these surprising pages, Buffon describes "pallid creatures as well as dwarfs, dodgy eyes as well as monsters". These naturalist-style depictions add a certain strangeness to the already highly unusual engravings.

This presentation is linked to the "Freaks and Monsters" exhibition as part of the Coup de contes festival organised by the Côte-d'Or Departmental Council.
