Varennes-Vauzelles Christmas market, from 2 to 4 December, under the sign of solidarity
The traditional Christmas market of Varennes-Vauzelles will once again be held on Place de la République and Chemin des Meuniers from 2 to 4 December.
Festivities from Friday 2 December
Exclusively this year, the Christmas market will start on Friday evening.
The festivities will begin with a parade of Christmas lanterns made by the children of the extracurricular school, accompanied by the sound of the Drummer Band.
At 6.30 pm, the Mayor and the elected representatives will launch the 2023 edition of this new Christmas market, with the choirs "Les Voix Ferrées" and "Invoglio" singing Christmas carols.
Afterwards, you can enjoy a drink offered by the municipality, among hot chocolate, mulled wine and hot soup.
As a preview, the shopkeepers, freshly installed in their chalets, will welcome you and present their products, amidst the illuminations. Father Christmas will also be present, from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m., for a photo, to exchange a few words with the children, and to offer papillotes to the greediest of them.
A weekend under the sign of solidarity
Throughout the weekend, you will be able to meet about ten local associations, who will come to exchange with you: the Museum of the Resistance, the Kingdom of Cats, the Friends of the Foundation for the Memory of the Deportation, the Henri Wallon College, the ASAV Football, the UAICF, the Secours populaire, etc.
To close this Christmas market, a special Gratiferia, on the theme of games and books, will be held by the CCAS in the Children's Village on Sunday from 11am to 7pm. This is an opportunity to make a generous gesture by dropping off your children's forgotten toys, or by coming to find the future gifts that will be unwrapped at the foot of the tree.
Free activities proposed by the Municipal Services
This year again, the Social Centre will welcome you throughout the weekend. Sheltered inside the Gérard Philipe Centre, the Children's Village, new this year, is the ideal place to carry out various creative activities around Christmas: make-up workshop, making a fresco of the Great North with polar animals, activities with the media library... While the children are having fun, it is the ideal time for parents to visit the Christmas market and its fifty or so traders.
As usual, the media library will also be present at the market to offer workshops, and children will be able to take advantage of the Christmas Story animations, on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm and 5pm, from 3 years old; and the games animations, on Saturday from 2pm to 7pm and Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. On the occasion of this festive weekend, the media library will also be open to welcome you, on Saturday from 2pm to 7pm and on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
An essential part of any Christmas market, children will also have the chance to meet Father Christmas, they will be able to tell him about their wishes for gifts under the tree during a photo session, Saturday from 4pm to 8pm and Sunday from 4pm to 7pm, on the market.
Do you prefer a sporting atmosphere? No problem! The Varennes-Vauzelles Sports Department invites you, on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th, from 11am to 7pm to discover biathlon for free on its stand. It is the occasion, for the small ones, and even the older ones, to come to try this sport, on an adapted course, by slaloming through obstacles and by trying shooting with laser guns.
Culinary activities will punctuate this weekend
Finally, for the gourmets, culinary animations will take place throughout the weekend. A chocolate workshop will be held on Saturday, from 11am to 6pm, to teach you how to create your own chocolates, with Mr Roy, in the Salle des Réceptions.
To warm up during the long winter evenings, the Pôle Adultes Familles, from the Centre Social Municipal, invites you to come and take part in its workshops to learn how to make a soup with the vegetables found in all our fridges, on Saturday 3rd, from 3pm to 4.15pm, from 4.30pm to 5.45pm and from 5.45pm to 7pm.
Then on Sunday, the Toques Nivernaises will offer free tastings of sweet and savoury mignardises to food lovers, from 11am to 1pm and from 3pm to 6pm.
Local traders and quality products in the Christmas tradition
The sixty or so chalets and marquees will welcome, in a warm setting, the traders and associations who have come for this festive weekend. They will be keen to show you their wares. The municipality has made it a point of honour to bring together traders offering quality, local products worthy of a New Year's Eve party. You will be able to find everything you need to treat yourself: seafood, snails, regional products, nougats, beers and wines, sweet and savoury groceries, etc., but also products that are ideal as gifts thanks to the craftsmen present at the market, in particular jewellery, leather goods and interior decoration.
Several catering services will be available on site throughout the weekend.
