What better way to pay tribute to Louis Armstrong, king of the trumpet and tireless promoter for five decades of the jazz he helped invent! The Louis Armstrong Memory, an orchestra made up of the finest European swing musicians, is naturally the inevitable group to pay tribute to him! Trumpeter Joë Santoni plays the role of Louis. After a trip to New Orleans, Joë developed a passion for Armstrong and became the trumpeter of choice to celebrate the legendary Satchmo. In 2021, Joë met Eldar Tsalikov during a jam session at a festival in England. Originally from Rostov in Russia, this talented saxophonist and clarinettist struck up a friendship with Joë, who invited him to Paris to work on various projects, including the Louis Armstrong Memory. Benoît de Flamesnil completes this brilliant melodic section. Sought after for his infallible technique in the service of melody, Benoît is one of the indispensable trombonists on the swing scene!
The rhythm section is just as incredible! It includes the best slap specialist in the world with double bassist Gilles Chevaucherie, the world champion of stride piano with Jean-Baptiste Franc and the new prince of drums with David Hermlin from Berlin. All these musicians play together regularly, and over the years they've built up an astonishing musical complicity with a spectacular energy that will be put to good use in the music of Armstrong. Suffice to say that this gathering of exceptional artists to celebrate the genius of the New Orleans trumpeter is an occasion not to be missed!
