Disqualified for gender bending: you won't soon forget the name of Caster Semenya. Thoroughly documented and spiked with devastating humour, "Free Referee" depicts the fight for equality of an extraordinary athlete.
2009. Winner of the 800 m at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, South African Caster Semenya was denied her title. The complaint was that her "hyper-androgenism" was boosting her performance to the detriment of other runners... 1 minute 55 on the track... And ten years of struggle, recounted by four actresses who take on the roles in an edifying journey through the arcana of top-level sport. Official bodies, courts, the medical profession, the media... From tableau to tableau, this creation, in which rigour and humour pass the baton, goes beyond sport to raise fascinating questions about equality. In the starting blocks: drama, comedy, documentary, rap and even dance music. For equality, the finishing line is still a long way off...
