Alligator Nights Staples Jr. Singers, Cory Seznec
Staples Jr. Singers (US)
No, they are not the legendary Staple Singers of Pop and Mavis, the royal family of funky gospel music. But they are a pure and wonderful gospel group from Mississippi, with a story like a fable. In the 1970s, these Staples Jr Singers were very young and sang in churches around Aberdeen, Mississippi. Their single, obscure and excellent album (recorded in 1975 in Tupelo) was re-released in early 2022, allowing the three members of the group to reform and hit the road again, beyond the borders and churches of Mississippi. A true resurrection. Like Como Mamas, these ever-vigilant Staples Jr Singers embody the real thing, the rustic, authentic and soulful music of the American South.
Cory Seznec (FR/US)
Backstage at the Alligator Nights: ten years ago, Cory Seznec contacted us to play at the festival. And then time passed. We are a little slow, but proud today to welcome the Franco-American folk troubadour Cory Seznec. Cory Seznec is an acoustic guitar wizard with a passion for ethno-musicology and for playing music in the field, on street corners or on the other side of the world. He has enriched his music with African flavours, from Mali to Ethiopia, to give it a unique flavour. With his new album Eyes On The Rise, the time for recognition has come, like a guitar arpeggio without borders.
