The action takes place on the terrace of a retirement home, or rather a veterans' hospice. It's August 1959. Three grandaddies are putting up resistance by entrenching themselves there. All three fought in the Great War of 14-18; they reminisce about the past and seem to be discovering the present. They refuse to see old age as a disease and decide to escape from this life in black and white to discover the colour of the 60s.
They are three completely different characters who constantly clash, yet are inseparable. These funny birds regale us with delicious lines. Like children, they dream as they watch the poplars sway in the wind. It's like a breath of freedom that allows them to escape from a prison on the edge of nowhere. For them, it becomes a mission of hope, a duty as fighters.
This play received 4 nominations for the "Molières 2003".
