Wednesday 9 October at 3pm: Exhibition and guided tour, hot-air balloons or sausages?
When you put it like that, the theme of this visit is intriguing... What do hot-air balloons and sausages have to do with each other? While hot-air balloons immediately bring to mind the aerostats dreamt up by the Montgolfiers, you'll discover that in the turbulent late 18th century, the two brothers who have gone down in history were not the only ones to conquer the skies. As far as the sausages are concerned, the story takes place in Cosne, which, as we know, was the short-lived home of the National Aerostation School in the Binot barracks vacated by the 85th Line. For 5 years, the people of Cosne will be able to enjoy this magical spectacle, just like at an amusement park, as they watch huge sausage-shaped balloons rise into the sky!
Saturday 12 October at 3pm: Magic lantern workshop
Come and discover the magic lantern that has stood the test of time. We're offering a workshop open to everyone, young and old, on this optical box and its hand-painted glass plates. For a moment, become a peddler of images, and take your turn creating a glass plate as you did in days gone by.
The Musée de la Loire is taking advantage of the Fête de la science to highlight two themes raised in its exhibition under the heading inventions. During a guided tour led jointly by the museum and the archives department, you'll discover the epic story of the conquest of the skies with hot-air balloons and airships in Cosne. It's an opportunity to access previously unseen documents and archive images. Finally, take part in a workshop on magic lanterns with enthusiastic collector Bruno Bouchard.
