"My mother tongue is dying and I'm having trouble talking to you about love".
A nugget of a show programmed as part of the Contes Givrés festival with Yannick Jaulin. Nominated for a Molière in 2020.
Le Beau Monde ? Company Yannick Jaulin & Alain Laribet.
At the heart of society, Yannick Jaulin perpetuates the need for orality - that primitive form of teaching - he travels to fairs and national institutions, tickling the navel of a world that we strive to build by day and destroy by night. Since, he says, we are all born of a story, he defends storytelling as a popular art form, with a metaphysical capacity to make humans whole. He is a tireless researcher of a fundamental question: from our origins to our futures, what imaginative animals are we?
Show My mother tongue is about to die and I'm finding it hard to talk to you about love.
In this spoken concert, Yannick Jaulin declares his love of languages with humour and melancholy.
He is a historian of language through the centuries, an advocate of minority languages and a critic of Jacobin centralism (...) French is the language of his head, patois the language of his heart. His plea is eloquent, skilful and enjoyable. Moving too!
Thierry Voisin ( Télérama)
I feel an urgent need to talk about language, about mother tongues. About what's left of my own, as a poetic tool to focus my eyes on the other side of the world.
