Temporary exhibition "Pierre-Alexandre Morlon (1878-1951), an art in the service of the Republic
On the occasion of the centenary of the installation of two sculpted groups that decorate the city of Mâcon, Les Vendangeurs and the monument to the dead, created by Pierre-Alexandre Morlon, the Musée des Ursulines is devoting its first retrospective to this artist.
The exhibition will bring together more than 200 works, paintings, sculptures, medals but also preparatory sketches and matrices, from public and private collections, gathered to evoke the diversity of his work.
In order to retrace the career of the sculptor and engraver in an exhaustive manner, the museum has the support of two institutions that hold several specimens of his work: the Musée d'Orsay and the Monnaie de Paris.
The Musée d'Orsay and the Monnaie de Paris have diverse collections related to the work of the sculptor and medal engraver. Their participation in the project is made possible by the expertise of François Blanchetière, curator of sculpture and architecture at the Musée d'Orsay, Béatrice Coullaré, head of conservation at the Monnaie de Paris and Dominique Antérion, head of the collections and the medallist at the Monnaie de Paris.
Exceptional loans from Canada are made possible thanks to the partnership with the Musée national du Québec.
