The Musée des Ursulines is presenting a major retrospective of the work of French artist Denise Ferrier (1920-2011), whose paintings were influenced by the times in which she lived. Although little-known during her lifetime, her work evolved in an artistic environment and will be included in the collections of the Musée national d'art moderne in 2021.
The exhibition will bring together around a hundred original works by Denise Ferrier, as well as works by artists who inspired her, such as Henry Valensi (1883-1960), Henri Goetz (1909-1989) and Jean Souverbie (1891-1981). Documents relating to the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, which bear witness to his artistic friendships and his work as a comic strip colourist, will also be on display.
This exceptional exhibition is organised in partnership with the Musée national d'art moderne, the Beaux-Arts museums in Bordeaux and Lyon, the Musée de la Citadelle in Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Musée Rollin in Autun and Patrice Spadoni, the artist's son. The exhibition is supported by the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles (DRAC) and the Région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
