Exhibition: Mâcon, from the Gallic period to the year 1000
The Musée des Ursulines, in partnership with Inrap, is organising the exhibition Mâcon from the Gallic period to the year 1000 (excavation campaigns and archaeological practices from the 1960s to the present day).
The exhibition highlights the constitution of the museum's archaeological collection, which was greatly enriched from the 1960s onwards thanks to excavations carried out as part of the city's development projects.
An early occupation of the territory
The first part deals with the arrival of finds from 19th century excavations. In the second half of the 20th century, the approach changed and the object was less and less extracted from the excavation site. The exhibition focuses on the way of life during the Gallic period, with a specific focus on the birth of the town and the development of trade. The Frankish and Carolingian periods allow us to study the notions of frontier and power, highlighting the emergence of the feudal aristocracy.
A major restoration
The gladiator mosaic dating from the 1st century and discovered in Flacé has undergone a major restoration in Saint-Romain-en-Gal in the world's largest workshop dedicated to mosaics.
Unpublished loans
The presentation is enriched by loans granted by the Regional Archaeology Department corresponding to the excavation campaigns carried out by Inrap in Mâcon, rue Tilladet in 2005, place des Carmélites in 2015, rue Gambetta in 2018 and on the site of the Minimes convent in 2019.
An attractive scenography
Designed and produced by the SEV Communication agency, the scenography will be accompanied by digital devices.
