The Friends of Chaluzy invite you to discover an exhibition to be held in the Church on the theme of the Tacot from 21 to 29 September.
A long history:
The tacot was the name given to the railway line that linked Nevers to Saulieu until the last war. It was a metre gauge line that ran throughout the Nièvre region, with numerous stops and a few sidings. The line carried both goods and passengers. From 1936, a De Dion Bouton railcar provided greater comfort and speed for users. On leaving Nevers, after the Tonkin station and crossing the diversion canal on a metal bridge that still exists, the line passed at the foot of the Chaluzy church, about 1.50 metres from the corner of the building!
Numerous photos show the rails and signposts.
The jalopy will be revived on the occasion of the Heritage Days, from 21 to 30 September, when the Association des amis du vieux Chaluzy, with the help of Dominique Bego, a railway specialist, is organising a "retrospective" on the site of the
the old line.
A few metres of track with rails, sleepers, ballast and signs will be reconstructed in the very place where they were laid. A life-size silhouette of the De Dion Bouton railcar will also be in place. Inside the church, a circuit
will illustrate the route and stages of the tacot. Numerous steam and railcar models, accessories and a conference will bring rail transport of the era back to life.
Free admission every day from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm (at weekends until 7pm).
The Eglise de Chaluzy is on the D176 (Saint Eloi commune), on the outskirts of Nevers near the Nevers/Saint Eloi industrial estate.
