Valérie Rouquié's works are mainly black stone, sepia and red chalk drawings in a refined style.
She started drawing at the age of 7 and never let go of her pencils. In 1985, Valérie passed the competitive entrance exam for Applied Art in Moulins (03), and the following year she entered the Lycée Mathias in Chalon-sur-Saône (71) in the "photography" section. In 1989, she flew to England. During her stay, she spent some time in Newmarket, the birthplace and world centre of thoroughbred horse racing. It was here that she discovered the fascinating world of horse racing. She made it one of her favourite themes, like all the other animals she loved. Femininity also features prominently in her work. Valérie Rouquié draws spontaneously to give life and movement to her drawings.
