Exhibition of paintings by artists Lyze Lehoussine and Jhycheng Wu "Again? Always! Still life..."
When we announce an exhibition in 2024 on the theme of still life, you'll wonder: "Again?" and the answer will be: "Always!". We prefer the Anglo-Saxon expression: Still life.
In this exhibition, objects take on the power and are no longer enslaved either to the expression of the fragility or brevity of this world, or to the glorification of banality, or to the play between artificiality and reality, or to the criticism of over-consumption, or to any of the other preoccupations of twentieth-century artists who have dusted off this artistic genre dating back to Antiquity.
In their Natures mortes, Liza Lehoussine and Jhycheng Wu are essentially interested in painting, making it the subject of their work. By questioning the notion of representation, they show us that the boundary between what is an object and what is not is a porous one.
Under their brushes, things speak of themselves and of us, united in the same world.
Liza Lehoussine and Jhycheng Wu have captured, in pictorially opposed ways, the ability of objects to make us imagine, dream, believe, but also think, doubt and act.
