Éric Smolinski is a sculptor. Through his arrangements, the simple materials gleaned from his daily life are adorned with an airy grace, musicality, and let their singularities shine through. The material, an object of little, searched for, collected, amassed, innumerable, creates a desire, a tyrannical necessity. The gesture, simple, desperately simple, trivial, archaic, devoid of all nobility and know-how. Repeated, endlessly repeated. Until the extreme weariness that marks the end of the intention.
The volume then appears, perforated, sifted, bristling, hindered, hemmed in. From these various networks, like so many obstacles to the light, forms impose themselves which we hope will reveal or question.
