Conference proposed by the CCIC-Collège Européen de Cluny and the Arts et Métiers campus of Cluny, animated by Yann RICHARD, Professor emeritus at the Sorbonne nouvelle, specialist of Iran.

Since the Second World War, the Americans have presented themselves as defenders of Iran's integrity in the face of the Soviet threat. After the 1953 coup that overthrew the nationalist Prime Minister Mosaddeq, Washington's political, economic and military influence became pervasive. On 4 November 1979, a dramatic and protracted hostage-taking at the US embassy in Tehran swept away this strategy and Iran sought to break free from the great powers.
