CONCERT • MJC “Tras os Montes, Au-delà des monts”

Wednesday 29 June at 8.30 pm in the hall of the MJC for the concert at the end of the residency by Laetitia Marcangeli (vocals, hurdy-gurdy, percussion) from the company Présences-Monde and Julie Lobato (vocals, lavta and percussion).

The project Tras os Montes (Beyond the mountains in Portuguese) proposes a work of re-music of traditional pastoral and rural songs from the mountainous regions of northern Portugal and Corsica, based on "raw" recordings, a cappella, from collections from the populations.
These everyday songs are essentially monodic or amebic, i.e. sung in two voices according to the very ancient pastoral tradition - present as early as Theocritus' Idylls, in Alexandrian Greece, in the 3rd century BC, and Virgil's Bucolics, in the 1st century, in Rome - according to which two shepherds or cowherds answer each other, singing in an alternating manner.
