Jazz concert: Stefano di Battista
Stefano di Battista
A sensitive and virtuoso tribute to the composer's genius
With the album "Morricone Stories", released on 2 April by Warner Music, saxophonist Stefano Di Battista wanted to pay tribute to Ennio Morricone by adding his own personal touch, tinged with jazz.
In the past, Stefano Di Battista had collaborated with the 'Maestro'. Ennio Morricone even composed a song for him, dedicated to his daughter, Flora. "It was one of the most beautiful gifts of my life," recalls the artist, showing the original score, signed by the famous conductor. The saxophonist had to refine his playing to respect as closely as possible the work of the man he considers a genius and who, throughout his career, composed almost 500 film scores.
Ennio Morricone, composer of cult film scores, passed away on 6 July 2020. His compatriot Stefano Di Battista pays tribute to him in his own jazz-inspired way.
The difficulty was to keep the power of his music, even with four instruments," says the Italian saxophonist.
