Four bodies fight against the power of words in a piece that merges agitprop and fun.
Have you ever heard of public speaking, the technique at the crossroads of rhetoric and eloquence used to manipulate crowds? Because verbal and physical language are intimately linked, choreographer Marine Colard has decided to make it the subject of her new piece.
Set against a backdrop inspired by the obstacle courses of dog agility (a discipline in which humans teach their dogs to obey them with their fingertips) and music composed essentially of sounds produced on the stage, four performers embark on a strange and burlesque dance in an attempt to respond to the injunctions and instructions they are kindly asked to carry out. But their funny postures and gestures will end up revealing the absurdity of the performative discourse and undermining the hierarchical relationships that underpin it. At once playful and critical, this General Battle will free these puppets from their invisible strings to loudly proclaim the right of all bodies to self-determination...
