THE festival of music and traditional dance
16/08/2019 - 18/08/2019
Every year, in August, the Fête de la Vielle [Hurdy-gurdy Festival] at Anost is the unmissable rendezvous for traditional music enthusiasts. Over a four day period, the festival features a dozen concerts and dances to the sound of bagpipes, accordions, the hurdy-gurdy and many improvisation pieces in bars and restaurants. An unmissable festival !
Varied concerts and improvised jamming sessions
Every year, during August, the sounds of bagpipes, violins, diatonic accordions and hurdy-gurdies reverberates throughout Anost. Over a four day period, the village celebrates the Fête de la Vielle [Hurdy-gurdy Festival] : A festival dedicated to traditional music and dance.
Many concerts, dances and shows are scheduled, with performances by hundreds of musicians and groups from the area (and beyond!) Two open stages have also been set up: An opportunity for artists to play music together and to meet around a common repertoire, whatever generation they are from. The Fête de la Vielle [Hurdy-gurdy Festival] also features young talent competitions and an introductory session for children aged 8 to 16.
As the encounters evolve, music and dance performances are also improvised in streets, bars and sometimes even in homes. A wonderful and friendly happening!
Today, the event is among the biggest festivals of music and traditional music in France, together with the Lorient Interceltic Festival and the ‘Rencontres Internationales de Luthiers et Maîtres-Sonneurs’ at Saint-Chartier.
Thirty-five years ago, the first Fête de la Vielle brought together four hundred spectators. Now the event welcomes over 20,000 people hailing from all over the world!
