The Great Morvan Crossing on a mountain bike

A sporting journey across wooded hillsides and heritage trails

From the Yonne to the Saône-et-Loire, the Great Morvan Crossing is a joy for mountain bikers young and old. A well designed itinerary unveils the wonders of this beautiful lower mountainous region which is wild and well conserved. During your ride you can also enjoy the wonders of architectural heritage.

Small uneven trails at the heart of the forest

A true paradise for sports lovers who enjoy nature, Morvan is the largest French Cycling Federation (FFC) mountain biking venue. Between Avallon and Autun, the Large Morvan Pass (GTM) has some 330 kilometres of marked trails across some exceptional landscapes. In this region, listed as a « Regional Nature Park » since 1970, green hills run alongside deep valleys.

Uneven landscapes serve up some unforgettable locations: Breuil-Chenu forest, the Carnaval rocks at Uchon, Mount Beuvray and its beech grove or even the great lakes in Morvan (Settons, Crescent, Saint-Agnan, Chamboux).

Across the entire route, those who are curious can admire the riches of the regional architecture (medieval town of Avallon, Pierre-qui-Vire Abbey, Chastellux Castle, Saint-Brisson Park Ground).

An accessible itinerary which is peppered with many facilities

Registered by the French Cycling Federation, with the crossing lasting one week. To go at your own place, you can organise a shorter circuit over a weekend or a day. The TER trains or shuttle busses allow you to access marked paths or to reach your starting point.

Across the entire route, wash and tyre stations are available for your mountain bike.

Finally, throughout the crossing, gîtes and accommodation are available thanks to GTM partner accommodation and restaurant providers. You will be warmly welcomed for some relaxing and gourmet stopovers!
