A getaway along the banks of the river Loire
We have a romantic getaway for two for you along the river Loire in Burgundy, to visit the pretty town of La Charité-sur-Loire, famous for its priory church, recognised as a World Heritage site by Unesco.
On this weekend break, you can expect a tasting of Pouilly-Fumé wines, a bike ride along the banks of the river and to visit some wonderful heritage sites.
Day 1: walk around the historic town centre
Stroll along the cobbled streets of La Charité-sur-Loire
Today, to enter the pretty town of La Charité-sur-Loire, all you have to do is cross the bridge built in 1520. This is much easier than Joan of Arc's aborted attempt in 1429!
Did you know that La Charité-sur-Loire boasts one of Burgundy's 4 UNESCO World Heritage sites? Since 1988 the 900-year-old church of Notre-Dame has been included on the list as it is a major site along the Camino de Santiago in France. You most definitely won't be the first to come and admire this pretty monastic town!
Day 1: hop on your bikes
Follow the waters of the Loire... by bike
Today's objective is to breathe in, breathe out, reconnect with yourself, with others, and with this enchanting environment along the banks of the Loire.
The scenery will change very quickly as you cycle along, past sand banks, freshwater swamp forest, little islands, marshland, etc. And no matter the scenery, you will always be surrounded by diverse wildlife here, including 2 iconic river species: the beaver and the Eurasian otter.
That's right, the biodiversity of the Loire in Burgundy is quite simply exceptional! The area most definitely deserves its classification as a nature reserve.
It's the perfect place to get a welcome change of scenery!

The aptly named guesthouse 'Au Bord de Loire' will provide you with everything you expect from a revitalising autumn break: calm, natural environment, seasonal 'table d'hôtes' service, etc.
Day 2: Aboard the Mignonnette
A trip on a traditional boat
Sébastien knows the Loire like the back of his hand! He will be delighted to share his knowledge of local wildlife with you, aboard his traditional boat.
As you sail down the Loire, the last wild river in Europe, you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of a common crane or other rare species.
All sorts of boat trips are possible: one hour trips, half-day trips, birthdays, picnics, sunrise and sunset trips!

Day 2: Tasting at the château
In the Pouilly-Fumé vineyard
Have you heard of Pouilly-Fumé, the prestigious dry white wine? Its vineyard is 200 km south of Paris, along the banks of the Loire.
To find out everything you need to know, come to the Château de Tracy, whose vineyard dates all the way back to 1396.
Today, Juliette d'Assay has the honour of running this family business, which was even awarded the 'Vignobles & Découvertes' quality label in 2016. This label showcases the establishments which add value to tourism and winegrowing destinations.
