The extremely elegant Saint-Etienne Cathedral, which dominates the Auxerre skyline, above the river Yonne, is a masterpiece of Gothic art. Go down to the crypt, decorated with frescoes and admire the recently restored façade and impressive treasure collection; most importantly, however, don’t forget to look up and admire the 13th-16th century stained glass windows, which are some of the most beautiful in France.
