Etabli à mi-pente d'une colline boisée sur l'emplacement d'un ancien poste romain, en visibilité directe avec Vézelay, le château féodal de Bazoches construit au 7ème siècle fut acquis en 1675 par le Maréchal de Vauban grâce à une gratification que lui accorda Louis XIV. Dès son installation Vauban y fit de nombreux aménagements et le transforma en garnison militaire. Ses descendants et actuels propriétaires conservent avec soin de nombreux souvenirs de leur illustre ancêtre: armure, chambre à coucher, cabinet de travail, bibliothèque.
