The Lycée Viticole wine school in Beaune is located in the heart of the town at the foot of the hillside where the famous 1er cru wines are grown. Its holdings are spread over 23 hectares, comprising 20 different appellations, 40% of which are Premier Crus. Work in the vineyards and in the winery itself is done by professionals; the students are able to learn and develop their expertise during placements on the estate. Individuals and groups are welcome to visit the winery throughout the year. Guided tours are also organised, in French or English, for parties wishing to explore, in a single location, "Bourgogne from grape to glass" and the cooperage school. Visitors can also walk a waymarked trail, with panels providing information, to discover the six different "climats" belonging to the estate, on the slopes where the wines are grown. A sheet of notes with a map and commentary can be collected from the Lycée or one of the Offices de Tourisme.
