Burgundy was the birthplace of the great monastic reform movements that took place in the Middle Ages. From the 10th to the 12th centuries, Cluny, then Cîteaux were both centres of spiritual, intellectual, artistic, even political life which had a great influence throughout Europe. The religious buildings of Burgundy, from Vézelay to Paray-le-Monial, from Fontenay to La Charité-sur-Loire, bear witness to this great movement. Add to my road book
