Outstanding natural setting

Le Bec d'AllierAt the Bec d'Allier the waters of two wild rivers flow together over the upstream banks of the Loire. It's a paradise for salmon, migrating birds and a wealth of delicate plants.
Choose one or more peaceful activities ... and uncover the secrets of this unspoilt environment. On foot, in a canoe or 'gabare' (traditional river boat), trips organised by the Guides de Loire will introduce you to this very diverse natural setting...

At Pouilly, the Pavillon du milieu de Loire visitor centre is the place to find out all about the islets and meanders of the Val-de-Loire nature reserve. You will come away with a better understanding of the Loire's environmental importance... and see its nature trails with new eyes, before finding out about local wine-growing at the Tour du Pouilly fumé.

History and nature join forces...

Good food and wine, hydrotherapy and heritage can all be found at Bourbon-Lancy. From the hilltop above this charming town there are fine views over the Loire valley and Bourbonnais plain. Mad about fishing? The étang de Fleury has pike, carp and white fish.

Did you know that the first of the Châteaux of the Loire is in Nevers? You can tour the Ducal palace then float above the river in a hot-air balloon...Cyclists may care to spin along the Loire on the Euro Vélo 6 route!

Travel back in time and, like Santiago de Compostella pilgrims of old, cross the long humpback bridge at Charité-sur-Loire, a UNESCO World Heritage site with its towering Cluniac church.Le Bec d'Allier
