From Gaul to the 17th century, from Cluny's National Stud to the bridle paths of the Morvan... There are countless possibilities for experienced riders as well as beginners. For your first time in the saddle, for a trek lasting several weeks, for an introduction to carriage driving, choose a special interest holiday or follow Burgundy's great historic trails.
From the Yonne valley to the Châteaux of Southern Burgundy tourist route, there are several major horseback trails in Burgundy:
Nature lovers can opt for the Loire to Morvan trail (130 km) and the Horseback tour of the Morvan (600 km), both running through the National Park's unspoilt scenery.
Burgundy is not just a paradise for long-distance riders! The Pistes vertes of southern Burgundy, the Chemins de Côte-d'Or and the Grand chemin équestre du pays Châtillonnais offer a number of short round trips through countryside and villages. Criss-crossing the waymarked trails, these recognised bridle paths (shown on maps) are open to walkers and mountain bikers as well as horseback riders. Try something different!
Rides and day-long treks, accompanied by an instructor, are a good way to improve your riding skills while exploring some of Burgundy's finest landscapes. Residential courses for children or adults, treks centred around the same accommodation, touring treks organised by a riding school or free-ranger trekking ... Choose the option best suited to your wishes and experience!
Would you like to have fun and try out something unusual? The whole family can enjoy hiking with a donkey, taking a ride or longer outing in a horse-drawn carriage on the Route des Vignobles or setting off in a gypsy caravan. The town of Cluny is a real centre for horses, with the National Stud, racecourse, riding club and many horse activities grouped together under the Equivallée Cluny® banner.
Attentive reception, suitable facilities, qualified staff... Riding centres with the "Centre de Tourisme Equestre” label (CTE) have undertaken to adhere to a quality charter. In order to look after both rider and mount, bivouacs and specially selected accommodation are available along the trail.
The Bourgogne Tourisme website has a complete set of addresses to help you plan your horseback holiday with confidence. The Comité Régional de Tourisme Equestre (CRTE) and corresponding Comités Départementaux provide additional information and useful material for planning your itinerary (routes, maps, etc.)
