Start on the banks of the Yonne
In Sens you can follow the 'Bornes du patrimoine' discovery trail at the centre of the old town. Did you know that they hold a Saint-Fiacre flower festival on the second Sunday in September?
To the south is Auxerre. Its discovery trail, marked out by bronze figures of Cadet Roussel on the pavement, is 5 km long and takes in 67 points of interest where you can admire the town's rich heritage. If you get tired you can always finish the tour in the Voyageur, an electric family-size vehicle. Take an urban cycle ride along the banks of the Yonne before continuing by boat along the Canal du Nivernais.
Move on to the heart of Burgundy
Dijon is the cultural capital of Burgundy. Its discovery trail, called the Parcours de la Chouette, will lead you to the city's treasures, such as the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy or the Place de la Libération. After a busy day why not relax in a themed bar in the historic centre or attend a classical concert in the auditorium? Spend the night in a charming townhouse, guesthouse (B&B) or an international accommodation centre.
On the N74 road be sure to stop at Beaune. Stroll around its typical narrow streets with townhouses, half-timbered houses, flower filled squares and gardens. Take a ride on the Visiotrain, leaving from the Hôtel-Dieu, to see the famous landmarks: basilica of Notre-Dame, Wine museum, the Hospices...
"In Mâcon, enjoy a lunch cruise on the Saône"
Continue to the Nivernais
Explore Nevers by following the blue line on the pavements. A chance for ladies (and gents) to go shopping at the Ragueneau chocolate shop and the market in Roger Salengro park. If you are staying here in autumn, don't miss the D'jazz Nevers festival with a range of top class performers.
End up in southern Burgundy

Walk around the pedestrianized streets of Chalon-sur-Saône, stopping at the shops in the Grande Rue and have fun with the trompe-l'œil façades in the rue aux Fèvres. Night life is particularly interesting during the Chalon dans la Rue festival!
Further south, there are 3 unusual itineraries to explore Mâcon, including hidden passages which only the locals know about. You can also enjoy a lunch cruise on the Saône or take a seat in one of the fashionable riverside restaurants.
