Start with something a bit different

Petit train touristique de Bligny-sur-OucheLeaving from Chigy, take a trip on a pedal-driven rail trolley on a very old railway track (1870) which runs alongside the Vanne. It's an excellent way to enjoy the scenery of the Yonne and Serein valleys. .

At the heart of the Puisaye, try adventure tree-top climbing in the Bois de la Folie adventure park at Treigny. There's a choice of nine different courses, from very easy to truly hair-raising – perfect for the daredevils amongst us! Boutissaint Nature park is the place to go if you want to see animals in their natural environment.

Move on to recreational activities

Want to just laze about? Then Dijon Plage at Kir lake is for you! Throughout the summer there are a number of free activities available: beach volleyball, tennis, water polo, treasure hunts, etc

After this, why not go for a 30 minute ride on a narrow-gauge steam train, leaving from the old station at Bligny-sur-Ouche? The Chemin de fer de la Vallée de l'Ouche organises trips along one of France's oldest railway lines...

"Beside the Saône, laugh out loud at the parade of cardboard bigheads"

Continue with the joys of nature

Take the 'voie verte' along the Canal du Nivernais, an outstanding cycle track, 180 km long. Perfect for a short outing or right to the end for the more energetic!

To the east, at the heart of the Morvan, Settons lake is the place to enjoy a range of water sports: rowing, water skiing, wind surfing and swimming – something for the whole family!

Back on terra firma for a horse-drawn carriage ride in the Nièvre. The ideal family outing, at a walk or a trot, leaving from Vézelay, Bibracte or the Morvan National park.

End up in fits of laughter

Enjoy the wide range of activities available at Les Combes adventure park in Le Creusot and Diverti'Parc at Toulon-sur-Arroux: summer tobogganing, gallop horse ride, individual cable cars, plant mazes, giant wooden games, walks with a storyteller, bouncy games and an unusual collection of cows from all over the world.

If you like street festivals and fun fairs then the carnival at Chalon-sur-Saône is the place for you. It's the second biggest carnival in France, after Nice! Beside the river Saône you can laugh out loud at the parade of cardboard bigheads...

Then head south to cross all five continents! The Touroparc at Romanèche-Thorins is a zoo with 800 wild animals, including Niger giraffes and white Bengal tigers.
