Itineraries to be enjoyed to your own tastes, including vineyards and heritage sites
There is nothing like cycling to enjoy all of the secrets Burgundy has to offer! In this region, steeped in history, marked pathways will lead you to the heart of the wine growing estates. Along the way, castles, villages and wine cellars open their doors so that you can take a peek during a cultural stop-off.
The Green Road in southern Burgundy runs across a total of 74 km from Chalon-sur-Saône to Charnay-les-Mâcon. Much appreciated by cycling tourists, it crosses the Mâconnais vineyards. On the road heritage lovers can visit Cormatin Castle, the villages of Givry and Buxy, or even the remains of Cluny Abbey.
This slightly uneven road is the ideal itinerary for cycling trips with the family. The route is wide and perfectly safe, with an excellent surface. There are also a host of advantages on offer: Good railway links, bus route accepting cycles, well equipped service stations, etc.
From Beaune to Santenay, the Vineyard Trail (22 km) invites you to cross the Côte de Beaune along the small roads used by wine growers. Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet… From village to village, the route unveils an exceptional wine growing heritage: landscapes, old houses, castles and wine cellars are all open to visits.
This slightly uneven trail, named the « Véloroute » [Cycle-road], is shared by cyclists and motorists. The roads alongside the vineyards have been resurfaced for improved comfort. At Santenay, it is possible to link up with the Green Road of the Canal du Centre, which will take you as far as Châlon-sur-Saône!
